To celebrate our 20th anniversary, we're returning in Spring 2020 with an all-new, live dance show called Deluxe. It will fuse beautiful dance with original music in our unmistakable style, including collaborations from some of the world’s most inventive and thought-provoking choreographers and composers. Deluxe will embark on a nationwide UK tour from March to May, including three shows at London’s Sadler’s Wells between 25 and 27 March. Deluxe is a co-production with Sadler’s Wells.
The new show will see Shanghai-based dancer and choreographer Xie Xin (TAO Dance Theatre, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s Eastman) make her UK debut choreographing a new piece for the Company dancers, set to an original score by composer Jiang Shaofeng, whilst Maxine Doyle (Punchdrunk) will present work to live jazz music by composer Cassie Kinoshi, of the Mercury Prize-nominated SEED Ensemble.
Our Artistic Directors Michael Nunn and William Trevitt said the following about the show:
"It is such a thrill to be challenged in the studio, to find new ways of expressing an idea and to learn new techniques. For our next stage production Deluxe, we wanted to find new voices to develop and work with the BalletBoyz dancers. Maxine Doyle and Xie Xin will take the work of the company in new directions, more physical, more thought provoking and an opportunity to reach new audiences. Over the last 20 years we have always thrived on the thrill of new collaborations and that urge still shapes our creative decisions. The point of being a repertoire company and not choreographer lead is precisely to be able to change direction, take risks on fresh ideas, discover new voices and reveal unexpected outcomes. Despite doing this for 20 years, we never want to settle for more of the same."
